Trap Pilates was created in 2017 by Sonya Simpson, also known as Kendall J. She developed the concept as a way to attract a broader, more diverse audience to Pilates. At the time, Pilates was often viewed as something reserved for affluent individuals, but she recognized its powerful benefits and wanted to make it more accessible, exciting, and culturally relevant.
With a vision to transform the traditional Pilates experience, she introduced fast-paced music and an energetic vibe. Inspired by the release of “Pretty Girls Like Trap Music” by 2 Chainz, she had a breakthrough idea—to create a Pilates class set entirely to trap and R&B music, with movements designed to match the rhythm and energy of each track.
The result was an instant success—and Trap Pilates was born.
Trap Pilates is where R&B and trap music meet high-energy, core-burning Pilates. This hour-long class transforms your workout into a full-on experience, bringing Atlanta’s trap sound straight to your mat. Expect to sweat, feel the burn, and most importantly—have fun.

Kendall J specializes in alternative Pilates formats designed to create an inclusive, fun, and engaging environment for all fitness levels. Her creative and charismatic teaching style, combined with her extensive knowledge and experience, sets her apart and keeps clients coming back for more.
Beyond her impact in the Pilates industry, Sonya is also a successful entrepreneur. She is the owner of AlterEgo Recovery House, AlterEgo CBD & Smoke Shop, and AlterEgo Trucking & Logistics—expanding her influence across multiple industries.
